If I was going to start a punk rock band*, I’d call it The Warren Harding Administration.
If you haven’t guessed, my goal for the day is to be the top link when someone googles “Warren Harding punk rock.” I think I can finally use that huge “Mission Accomplished” banner I got for cheap from the previous administration. Now I just need a parachute, jumpsuit, and an aircraft carrier… Time to hit up eBay!
I’ll have to do some research into this, but my punk rock band would be the first to incorporate the extensive use of a cello. And most of our songs, naturally, would be about Warren Harding. What is more punk than rocking out about the man who is widely considered to be one of our worst presidents ever?
For those who have not read Malcolm Gladwell’s “Blink” or are unfamiliar with Harding’s story, he was pretty much elected president because he had “the look.” When people saw him, they viewed a tall, good-looking man and the natural instinct was that he would make a good leader.
Sometimes natural instincts are wrong.
I know I haven’t been updating this blog as frequently as I might like (been busy with paying gigs…), but anyone who has read my past couple of posts would know that I’m currently on a Malcolm Gladwell kick. I had finished “The Tipping Point” a little while ago and have only a handful of pages in “Blink,” while at the same time I've started reading “Outliers.”
The man’s works are incredible reads. They are interesting, informative, extremely well-written and captivating. If you haven’t done so already, go out and read them!! I’ll wait…
*Things I would prefer to do before forming a punk rock band**: taking a nap; eating a Burger King Double Whopper and McDonald’s fries and a Frosty from Wendy’s (while drinking a Dr. Pepper from Taco Bell); parachuting onto an aircraft carrier in front of my Mission Accomplished banner; playing professional football; rehabbing in a hospital from my brief stint as a professional football player; and forming a Warren Harding fan club.
** Uh, that list is merely a sampling of a few things I'd do before starting the band. If I were to list them all, it would require several months of my life. I have better things to do.
